We are continuing to explore the exciting Mechanical Town series. This series is unique for a number of reasons. First of all, the sets are tied together by one theme. They include a factory, transport systems, as well as citizens of the city. That’s right, tiny wooden figurines are a recent innovation for UGears puzzle sets. Adding these characters allows extending the fun beyond the assembly process. This way you can create stories for each Mechanical Town inhabitant.  Read more about these characters in the first part of the article, while here we will be focusing on the transport and defense systems of the city.

3d puzzle sets that are on this list feature an astonishing level of detail. Any could become a perfect addition to the striking Mechanical Town that you are building. Let’s take a closer look at these beauties.

UGears Rail Manipulator

The Rail Manipulator is one of the more sophisticated UGears sets from the Mechanical Town series. This is not, however, due to its assembly difficulty but more due to the statuesque way this set looks after completion.

The Rail Manipulator is one of the more sophisticated UGears sets from the Mechanical Town series. This is not, however, due to its assembly difficulty but more due to the statuesque way this set looks after completion.

The Rail Manipulator consists of the following parts:

  • Two sections of rails,
  • Shed under construction,
  • Two shipping crates with doors,
  • Crane,
  • Freight carriage.

The five characters that are featured in this set are:

  • Manipulator operator,
  • Operator holding signal flags,
  • Worker with a shovel,
  • Handyman with a wrench,
  • Roofer with a hammer.

The centerpiece of the set is a manipulator with a mechanical claw that can pick up small cargo and load it onto the carriage. The manipulator works in several modes including 90- and 180-degree turns as well as the locked and unlocked modes for moving along the rails. This is an educative set each part of which works with extremely satisfying precision.

UGEARS LOCOMOTIVE AND RAILS

You can find the Locomotive in different UGears sets. As a part of the Mechanical Town series, it features the following elements:

  • 13 feet of tracks,
  • Crossing point with a stop sign and movable gates,
  • Magnificent 19th-century-style railway station with a clock,
  • Lamp posts,
  • Bench.

The Locomotive is one of the most outstanding UGears creations and is one of the most popular sets. Its exterior resembles the legendary steam train, and it is left open to allow the viewers to watch the enthralling work of the gears and levers that are pushing the wheels forward. On top of that, the Locomotive features a rubber-band engine that pushes it forward along the rails.

UGEARS ARCHBALLISTA-TOWER

The Archballista-Tower set stands out among the other Mechanical Town series sets. First of all, it’s a part of the town’s defense system. Secondly, the set resembles more a Medieval-style structure than a Victorian-era artifact.

The Archballista-Tower set comes with the two main elements. The first one, the Archballista consists of two modules: the base, and the firing component. Of course, the latter is fully-operational and is capable of shooting up to four wooden bolts per round.

The Tower is the second key element of the set. It features an elegantly-carved exterior that hides a set of stairs. This hidden secret is revealed if you move the gear on its side.

What is really interesting is that the firing component can be easily detached from the Archballista and set on the top of the Tower making you free to adapt them to the defense strategy that you picked for the Mechanical Town today.

This is our second and final article about the Mechanical Town series. We hope that these sets have won you over just like they did with us.
