The UGears Research Vessel is a set that will make you forget about everything else and set sail towards exciting nautical adventures. Following the success of the UGears Tugboat that employed a similar moving mechanism, the Research Vessel is a highly-detailed and fully-functional copy of the modern-day ice breakers and survey boats. Additionally, just like a Tugboat, the gears of the Research Vessel are arranged in a way to produce the sound that is similar to the sound of a diesel engine.

The set includes a bathyscape a motorboat and a lifeboat, all of which are easily and safely accommodated on the Research Vessel.

How UGears Research Vessel Works

The Research Vessel set features many exciting elements that will make your experience more genuine. The drop ramp, the cargo area with an opening hatch and a swing jib crane, and a special extension platform for the bathyscape are some of the elements that make this model so interactive and fun.

The engine room’s exterior design provides easy access to the inner work of the mechanisms that make the Research Vessel move. This model features several modes that are controlled by a lever: forward, turn, and automatic maneuvering.

Let me start by saying I\'m a retired man who\'s addicted to laser cut wood models. Rokr, Wood Trick, Ugears and more. I\'ve built models of all skill levels. This model has lot of pieces but really isn\'t that hard to put together. However, there were some issues. First, the toothpicks Ugears provides are not at all made to the tolerances that the laser cut pieces demand. I\'ve found this in other Ugers models too, such as their Trimaran. The toothpicks in this case were WAY too fat. However, I\'ve purchased generic round toothpicks at the grocery store that fit perfectly! Fortunately I had these on hand. A nice feature in their instructions is that they show you where pieces are located on a sheet. Unfortunately, the illustrations are so small you\'ll often need a magnifying glass to read them. Also the sheet numbers were not clearly marked on the wood sheets. The drawings made it easy enough to figure out which sheet was needed for each step. As far as the functionality of the moving parts in this model, pieces moved as they should if you\'re careful during assembly. However they are not durable enough for much handling. The stress on some pieces of thin plywood is just to much....and yes I lubricated everything properly. Another feature that would be nice is a parts list. None is provided. They supply some spare pieces but there\'s no way to know what or where these pieces are. The sheets merely randomly put a + sign beside extra pieces. My box was also missing one of the rubber bands. One last comment...I stain all my models. Oil based stain is required. I stain a sheet at a time and just touch up pieces where required after assembly. They look so much nicer and more finished.
